St Julians girl lands Apprenticeship with leading training provider
A youngster from St. Julians in Newport has gained an Apprenticeship with one of the UK’s leading recruitment and training agencies, Acorn.
Megan Davies, 17, recently started working as an Apprentice Administrator, within the Nursing Department at Acorn’s head office in Newport, where she will work towards completing an Apprenticeship in Business and Administration.
Megan left St Joseph High in 2010 and went on to complete an IT course before applying for the Apprentice position with Acorn.
Megan, whose role includes providing administrative support to Acorn’s extremely busy Nursing Division, said: “I really enjoy the mental health aspect of my work and want to expand my knowledge on the sector. I’m hoping to gain a permanent administration position within Acorn and hopefully within the Nursing Division.”
“I found out about Acorn’s Apprenticeship Scheme on the Careers Wales’ website.”
The Apprenticeship qualification will see Megan learn the essential skills required in the office environment from creating reports and using up-to-date IT systems to managing customer relations, which will eventually result in the possibility of working for Acorn permanently.
Megan continued: “The various elements of the Apprenticeship all relate to administration within the nursing field and have helped improve my knowledge of how the industry works. I enjoy the hands on aspect of the scheme and actually experiencing the job I’m training to do.”
Sarah John, Director of Acorn’s Training Division said: “Vocational Qualifications are an extremely effective way of learning, particularly for those who prefer learning through work rather than the traditional form of education. The Vocational Qualification demonstrates you can do a job to national standards and gives you the up-to-date skills employers are looking for. It’s a very powerful way of getting your dream job.”
Acorn has placed a number of Apprentices in recent months across the UK in sectors including business administration, retail, insurance and manufacturing.
