Introduction to Management
Overall Aim:
To give delegates a chance to reflect upon the challenges of their role as a manager, explore relevant models and use a number of self-diagnostic questionnaires to help ensure a consistent and effective management style. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and sharing of experiences.
Day One Content:
- Explore the role of a Manager
- Discuss the difference between leading/managing
- List what makes a great leader
- Develop an understanding of the 3 styles of leadership and their impact
- Consider John Adair’s 3 circle model of leadership
- Complete a Leadership style self-analysis questionnaire
- Key elements of Effective Communication
- Feedback Skills – focus on performance not personality
Day Two Content:
- Discuss the benefits and consider a model of delegation
- Explore time management principles (prioritising, to-do list and time bandits)
- Explore key theories of motivation and complete a self-analysis questionnaire
Team exercise:
- Explore Tuckman’s team development stages and the support required by the manager
- Explore Belbin’s Team Theory and complete a self-diagnosis questionnaire
This course is suitable for:
First line managers, people new into the role of management and more experienced managers who have never had the benefit of exploring management theories.
