Assertiveness & Communication

<< back to search results
Course Aims:

It has been said that the true meaning of a message is the way it is received and understood.  This suggests that the responsibility for effective communication lies with the person sending it.

Behaving assertively may not always ensure that you get the results you want and even the politest request may be declined by some people.  It is when you communicate your needs openly, honestly and directly you give both yourself and the other party the opportunity to achieve the result you both desire.  This principle applies whether you are returning goods to a store, negotiating a deal with a customer or simply taking part in a meeting.

This course is designed to give participants a greater understanding of assertive behaviour and to encourage enhanced performance in the workplace by building self confidence and developing appropriate skills and techniques.

By the end of the course you will

  • Have identified and explored the differences between submissive, aggressive and assertive behaviour
