Course Aims:The Award in Team Leading from Acorn is a concise qualification designed to give team leaders a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader. This programme broadens the skills and knowledge in a flexible and practical way and also helps develop the key skills needed to organise and direct the work effort of a team.
Course Overview:Day One – Developing Yourself as a Team Leader
This workshop is a good starting point for team leaders who are new to their roles, or for aspiring leaders who wish to gain a solid understanding of the principles and practicalities of team leading, covering the following areas;
- Personal skills and abilities for effective team leading
- Developing leadership styles and behaviours
- Using reflective learning skills to improve performance
- Areas of strength and possible improvement
- Ways of obtaining feedback from others
- Receiving and responding positively to feedback
- Personal action planning techniques
Day Two – Using information to solve problems
This workshop aims to develop your understanding of how to use information to solve problems, covering the following areas;
- Methods of information gathering, and retrieval from information systems
- How to identify information needs for a variety of purposes, such as problem solving and decision making
- Use of information to solve problems, make decisions, take corrective action, support or argue a case, or report to internal or external bodies
- Basic techniques for problem recognition and resolution
- Deciding and using success criteria
- The importance of involving team members in problem resolution
- Planning and implementing solutions
Day Three – Motivating the work team to perform
This workshop aims to help you develop an understanding of motivating teams to perform as required by practising or potential team leaders, covering the following areas;
- Ways to identify areas of concern or under-performance
- Extent of team leader’s authority to address performance problems within organisation’s policies and procedures
- Interpersonal behaviour and its impact
- Simple motivation models at work
- Blending personal objectives with organisational objectives
- Using rewards (behavioural) and positive feedback to optimise performance
Cost:
Acorn is able to access funding from the Welsh Assembly Government via their management development initiative for Wales. Under this initiative SME businesses may benefit from having up to 70% of delegates’ course costs being met by the Welsh Assembly Government. Non SME’s may also benefit from having up to 50% of delegates’ course costs being met by the Welsh Assembly Government. (Subject to eligibility and funding availability).
Unfunded Rate - £140 + VAT per delegate per day; giving a total cost of £420 + VAT per delegate.
Registration & Certification - £89 + vat per delegate
Lunch & Refreshments - £8 per delegate, per day
